The children’s room is their very own palace, where they’ll find peace, inspiration and security. It should be able to grow with your kids and support their development – year after year. Here are our best tips for creating nice, safe and cosy children’s rooms!
USE A HEALTH-FRIENDLY PAINT
We’re all committed to creating a safe atmosphere for our precious little ones. It’s absolutely safe to use Majestic Perfect Beauty & Care, our most healthy paint, in children’s rooms.
Majestic Perfect Beauty & Care is a premium long-lasting paint that delivers rich, beautiful colours. At the same time, it’s proven to have the least harmful emissions with the lowest odour. You and your kids can breathe easy while enjoying their lovely, newly-painted room.
PAINT IN COLOUR!
Kids love colours. Even the smallest thrive by having colours around them. Avoid painting in white and grey, as these colours do not stimulate any kind of impulse. On the other hand, warm colours are uplifting and invite restful sleep.
The children’s room grows with them, and will eventually also stimulate creative play and socialising with good friends. Feel free to pick colours that encourage both day and night play.
LET YOUR CHILD CHOOSE – BUT LIMIT THE SELECTION
When children pick colours, it’s mostly influenced by interests, TV characters, movies, or what their big sister or brother likes. Give them free reign in deciding the colours for their own room, but don’t present them with too many choices. Narrowing down the selection makes it easier for your young ones to make a decision. This way, you’ll also have some control over the colour scheme and keep the peace at home.
HARMONIOUS CONTRASTS EVOKE JOY
When combining several colours in the same room, we tend to choose shades in the same colour range, believing that it’ll look more refined overall. So naturally, we’re cautious about placing contrasting colours side by side. But with the right combination, a palette of contrasts can be used to create welcoming and unique children’s rooms.
Play with colours: combine different shades of pink, yellow and green to express the exuberance of childhood.
The contrast, between Jotun 10246 Velvet and 10580 Soft Skin, shows how pink and yellow can be put together in a more playful and perhaps slightly untraditional combination. The chair in 2856 Warm Blush again adds some pink, but in another shade. The room gains an airy, delicate and yet playful touch.
A LITTLE HINT OF PRINCESS CHIC
Despite the fascination kids have for princesses and princes at an early age, most outgrow these fantasies over time. However, they’re never too old for their favourite colours!

Paint the room in more subtle shades, and confine the princess touch to just furniture and decor. Coloured furniture can be easily replaced as your little girl grows too big for them. Muted wall colours, however, won’t require a major overhaul.
